Also known as Sea Ears (referring to their shape), Ormer, Perlemoen or Paua. The outer shell can vary from white / cream to brown/black, and can come in natural form or polished- smooth.
The inner lining is composed of Nacre, commonly known as Mother of Pearl, giving these shells a beautiful chatoyancy and iridescent glow. These markings come in distinctive marbled patterns in turquoise, blue, green, pink, purple, white and cream.
Abalone Shells can be found in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and North America.
